Hanging Pictures in Stone Barn Conversion

    Postby coastline » Sat Mar 14, 2009 6:32 pm

Yes I am a DIY virgin!

Just moved into a Barn Conversion. Wife has given me a load of pictures to hang and I have no idea how.

Ok did the usual and bought picture hooks from Homebase but as I thought the walls have a thin cover of plaster over stone (not sure what sort of stone it is - north wales barn)

I could get lucky and find mortar but it hasn't happened so far!

Hardwall hooks (yes I looked them up) wouldn't seem to be the answer either.

Also tried to put up a coat rail - thought I was doing well with drilling the first hole but the second hit stone. Only have a cordless 24v hammer drill which wasn't up to it. What do I need to use make a dent in this stuff?

Wife is giving me that "What kind of a man can't hang a picture look" so any ideas would be gratefully received.

    Thanks.

    coastline,
For lighter items you could rely on fixing into the plasterboard alone.
Where you need to fix into the stone walls which are probably granite, I would recommend you hire yourself a hilti drill.
