Has Floor Sealer been applied correctly?

    Postby welliegirl » Sat Apr 30, 2011 6:06 pm

    Hi
We've just had a limestone floor laid. It's got an unpolished tumbled finish. Our tiler came yesterday to seal it but 24 hours later I'm concerned that the sealant looks very mottled, as though it has soaked in in some places and not in others.

He started by cleaning the floor with water and then went away for about 3 hours (to watch the royal wedding) before coming back and sealing it. It appeared dry at this point.

He applied HG Impregnating sealer with a roller. We're not aware that he did anything further after this such as wiping off the excess with a dry cloth as it says on the can.

Can anyone advise why it now looks mottled? Will a second coat cure the problem? Does the sealer need to be removed and reapplied?

Your good advice greatly appreciated. Thanks

    welliegirl,
You need to get your tiler back to correct this but you may need to contact the flooring supplier/manufacturer for advice.

Thanks stoneyboy. As it turned out the mottling was just an internal feature of the stone. I needn't have panicked, there was no residue left on the surface and a second coating of protector has brought them up lovely. Thanks for your advice.
