Help Changing a Double Switch to a Single Dimmer

by brandybob » Tue Jul 25, 2017 3:05 pm

Really hoping somebody can help me. Have changed a ceiling light (was a like for like replacement) in our new (old) house but when I've come to change the switch for a dimmer the wires have confused me.

The old switch (left in pic) operated both the light and a wall fly killing unit (don't ask...) - that is no longer in the property so that half of the switch never did anything.

The two cables coming out at the wall are red-black-earth and red-yellow-blue-earth. The blue was already isolated and the earths connected to the box. Unfortunately I didn't make a note of where the remaining wires went. I've isolated all the wires in the meantime.

Have contacted local electricians but nobody is even responding so hoping somebody can assist. Cheers in advance.

Your old switch is a 2 gang 2 way.
Your new switch is a 1 gang 2 way.

You have the wrong switch.
