hi i have some 2.5 twin and earth cable left over,can i use it for lighting

depends what the load is and the ampage needed.

Its OTT for lighting, but no reason why you cant use it, except as Sparx says yo may find it diificult to get into the terminals, particularly if you have more than one to go in.
Normal for lighting is 1.00mm/sq or 1.5mm/sq with 6/10 amp breaker respectively.
