Help Please - Light Bulbs Shattering

Postby TVRobot » Sat Oct 06, 2007 4:25 pm

We have 8 exterior lights. All bulbs burn out and the glass shatters within 30 days of installing new bulbs. The bulbs are 60watt incandescent and from major manufacturers. The fixtures and the home is 3 years old.

Any advice?

I WOULD BE LOOKING AT RECOMMENDED WATTAGE FOR
THESE FITTINGS AS STATED BY MANUFACTUER.
DIFFERENT FITTING HAVE VARYING OPERATING TEMPERATURES, WHICH AFFECT LAMP LIFE.
IF YOUR FITTINGS ARE OF AN OUT DOOR TYPE THEN CHECKS FOR WATER PENETRATION SHOULD BE MADE TO ENSURE THAT AN ADEQUATE
SEAL HAS BEEN MADE.
8 X 60 WATTS = 460 WATTS SO IDEALLY THIS CIRCUIT SHOULD BE ON ITS OWN AS AN OUTDOOR LIGHTING CIRCUIT , AND WIRED IN 1.5 MM2
CONDUCTORS.
CONNECTIONS OF CONDUCTORS AT FITTINGS COULD BE CHECKED
FOR ADEQUATE TIGHTNESS AND SIGNS OF LOOSE CONNECTIONS AND
OVERHEATING.
CORRECT INSERTION OF LAMPS ON BAYONET OR EDISON SCREW FITTING TO BE CHECKED AT LAMPS AND THAT THEY ARE LOCATED CORRECTLY IN FITTINGS.
WIRING CHECKS TO BE CARRIED OUT ON CONDITION OF EXISTING
LIGHTING CIRCUIT, INSULATION, EARTH LOOP , ECT.
