Help wiring a dimmer switch

Post by vinceb » Wed Feb 02, 2011 5:02 pm

Hi, could anyone help me to wire in a dimmer switch, first time i've tried anything like this electrical. The instructions that came with it do not seem to match what i have read elsewhere.

Its a single light switch, the existing switch has a red wire going to a port marked 'com' and a blue wire going to a port marked '1WAY'

the new dimmer switch, a modern touch type dimmer has only two ports for wires, one marked L1 and one marked L2.

the installation instructions with the dimmer state...
"Connect live wire into the connecters (L1, L2) as shown on the diagram". Well there is no diagram

Is it a simle case of putting either a the red or blue wires in L1 and the other cable in the other, I presume not but the instructions do not give any further clues...

Could someone help?

Red and Blue?
odd combination are you sure?
Either
Brown and Blue or
Red and Black
Does the dimmer have a terminal port with a wavy line and arrow through it?
If so that is you common, your red/brown to that
and black/blue to either L1 or L2.

Hi, I can't see any other terminal port on it apart from the two marked L1 and L2?
