help with info plz

hi all i am starting to put together the drawings and prices for my new self build single story extention approx 8ft x 8ft.
i no the footing have to be 600mm wide but do i need to go upto a meter deep just for a single story????
also who are the main people i need to contact before i start???

contact an architect first,you can do the drawings yourself but its a bit of a headache.
Then you have to submit the drawings to the planning department.
Once passed building Control will assess how deep your foundation should be.
