Hotpoint dishwasher changing program

I have a hotpoint integrated dishwasher.
We choose the usual wash program and it seems to run for the required length of time. When it has finished we open the door and the 'soak' program light is flashing and the dishes aren't clean.
It seems to be changing program on it's own. We have a hotpoint engineer coming to have a look but would like to try something else first.
Any ideas?
