How to put a plug on a light fitting

by rosypie » Tue Feb 23, 2010 2:15 pm

I wanted a wall mounted light for my bedroom that would plug with a normal 3 pin plug into a socket I have spare. I didn't want anything fancy, I'm not bothered about digging the wires into the wall (as it happens the wires will pass behind a mirror and chest of drawers to the socket). I couldn't find a plug in light i liked so I just bought a wall light fixture that ought to be wired in thinking I could wire a plug onto the end.

Am I safe to do this? What kind of fuse should I use?

Thanks

Shouldn't be a problem. Make sure the wire coming from the light is clipped to the wall & not putting a strain on the connections at the light fitting end.
3 amp fuse will be fine but can sometimes blow easily when the bulb blow.
