    Immersion heater spanners

I recently purchased a box spanner to remove a broken immersion heater, and found that it was way too big (approx 86mm AF), and simply rotated without gripping the heater.

On measuring the old heater in situ, I found the measurement to be 3 1/4 inches AF. So presumably the existing heater is an old imperial size. Is there any way to obtain a 3 1/4 inch box spanner nowadays? I`ve looked on the net, but all I can find are the too-large metric ones.

Any suggestions as to how to release my immersion heater would be gratefully received.

    Thanks in anticipation.
