Installing Ceiling Fan/Light - 3 cables from the ceiling

Post by CT » Sun Oct 21, 2007 7:29 pm

I am attempting to install some ceiling fans/lights but would be grateful for some assistance:

I have three cables coming from the ceiling:
2x Red, Black & Green/Yellow
1x Red, Black with a red sleeve & Green/Yellow

The block in the new ceiling light has three connectors, L, N & E. There are wires already connected to the light itself - L has a red wire and brown wire, N has a blue wire and E has 2x green & yellow wires, one connected to the side of the light fitting.

Can you help with with the wires from the ceiling?

I am assuming that:
* the black wire with the red sleeve goes into the L
* the 2x black go into the N
* the 3 green & yellow go into the E

I am stuck with the reds. Do all 3 reds go into a "choc block" or only 2
reds? If only 2 reds go into a "choc block" which red goes into the block in the light fitting and is this also to go into the L?

Thanks in advance for your help.

hi CT you are correct all 3 reds go to spare choc-block,
docs project shows this clearly,
what you have (ignoring earths) is L+N in from previous light,
L+N onto next light, L to sw. & sw. L (the sleeved blk) back to light

This how-to provides general instructions for installing a ceiling fan and should give you a feel for what is involved. Remember, however, to always consult to your technician like that...
