Installing stair newel post and spindles

Post by supermonkey2904 » Sun Aug 23, 2009 2:05 pm

Hi guys

We are in the process of planning a spindle stair case and I need some advice if you can help?

The current stair case has a brick side to it, with bannister attached to intermittent studs placed between the bricks. Can I remove all the bricks down to floor level to just leave stair case showing? how do i go about securing newel post to concrete floor at bottom of stairs?...........

help needed

Thanks guys

supermonkey2904,
Chances are that the stringers are fixed into the wall so no you cannot remove the brick wall without checking first.
Newel post - dig a hole in the concrete and concrete it in place.
end
