Installing Ventilation Grilles to Blocked up Chimney

by michaeletc » Mon Jun 12, 2017 9:40 pm

Hi,

I have a Victorian terrace (1893) with blocked up chimneys. The recesses are still there (the previous owner had mock electric freestanding fireplaces). We are in the process of redecorating, and before I repaint, I want to know if we should have ventilation grilles installed. I have read that these are important but the previous owner neglected to add them.

The chimney breast is on the party wall and the neighbours chimney will be mirrored on the other side.

If so:

- how disruptive/complex is this?
- where should they be placed (near floor level I read, but as the recess is still there I don't see how this is possible)?
- how much would it cost to do this in three places (living room, dining room, bedroom)?

Thanks
