internal doors

I want to change an internal door in my house, the dimentions of the door frame is 1950mm x 762mm. The doors I've seen are 1981 x 762. I need to take about 25mm off top & bottom, width is ok. Wicks, B&Q ect say you can take a max of 5mm off moulded doors & max of 20mm off oak veneer doors. What can I do?

With the moulded doors, you may have to rebuild the top or/and bottom if you take 25mm or more off as you will be removing the rail that adds to the support of theface moulding .

The best bet would be to cut the door then remove the moulding off the side of the timber you have cut off, then you will have a piece of timber the same size to go back in, then you will have to push it up into the cavity glue it and cramp it then you should be ok.

Hope this makes sense and good luck

In addition to the radical surgery (which I have done, and it works reasonably well) you could try looking on the web. The manufacturers produce doors in quite a range of sizes but the big chains only stock a limited number. I found a door I needed on the Premdor website and had the local Castle order it in for me
