Kitchen Extension Not Inspected for Building Regulations by Previous Owner

Post by Ali » Mon Apr 16, 2007 9:02 pm

The previous owners of a house we are buying built a single story extention for a kitchen 14years ago but failed to get it inspected for building regs as it was being built. Recently it failed an inspection because the depth of the foundations were unknown, although there has been no sign of movement and there is rock underneath. The extention is built into a hill at the back of the house and access is difficult. Is there anything that can be done that will get us builing regs?

Talk to the building control officer of your local concil. In most cases its possible to get retrospective permissions and the depth of the foundations should be no problem to prove but please talk to them to find out what you have to do.
