knocking in water pipes

How do you fix a hammer in water pipes? I have emptied the tank and it works for a wee while then the knocking begins again

Dear me! Another post that requires the use of a crystal ball.

Has anyone done work on your plumbing recently? It may be that if they have the stop-cock needs to be closed a little to reduce the flow of water coming in.

Other than that, we'll look at bob's crystal ball.

Sounds like a new ball valve is needed in the tank. But as Bob says the old crystal ball is a little occluded today and it could be all sorts of things.

Is a better description possible?

Cheers
