laminate on carpet?

by diydi » Thu Jul 05, 2007 8:24 pm

hi
can you put laminate floorboards onto carpet?
If not, underneath I have a good underlay for the carpet - can I leave that and put the laminatte boards on top? or does laminate need specific underlay?

thanks

I would definatley not put a new laminate floor on top of carpet or on top of carpet underlay. If your laying a new laminate floor you will need to take up the old carpet and underlay. With the floors stripped back to the floor boards, i would inspect the floor for any loose floor boards, prutuding nails and uneven surface etc and make good. Before laying the laminate you will need to use the correct laminate floor underlay. It snot that expensive and usually comes on a roll so is quite easy to lay. Use a staple gun to keep this in place. When laying this becareful not to the let the underlay over lap. The following the manufactures instructions put your new floor down. Enjoy...hoep this helps.
