leaking chimney breast

by librarian466 » Tue Jul 03, 2007 5:55 pm

Over two years ago we had a water coming down above our fireplace the chimney breast mortar was cracked and replaced problem solved. After the most torrential of downpours the problem returned today though just slightly. I am thinking of using one of these waterproof coatings on the chimney breast like Thomsons or something similar is this a good idea

If you are going to use a waterproofer use one that can still allow the masonry to breathe. See our project on waterproofing external masonry.
