Light fitting keeps fusing when switching off/on

by Bobster200 » Tue Jan 27, 2009 11:19 am

I have tried to fit a new light fitting with a ceiling rose. When taking off the old light, I found 9 wires, 3 blue, 3 brown and 3 earth and I think this is because there are 3 switches in the room to turn the light on and off?
I connected the new lights wires through a connect box all blue to blue, all brown to brown and all earth to earth...lights came on when I switch electric back on, but when I switch the lights off it fuses everything? Any suggestions?

NO! it goes BANG when you turn the light ON!
As DOC says look at projects section which will show you put a dead short circuit across your switches at switch on.
This is by far the most often asked question on electrical forum by people who for some reason think lighting is easy!!
The number of wires at light bear no relation to number of switches.
Sorry, Not going to explain more as will be dangerous
