    Light switches

    Postby jamesdaniel » Tue Nov 18, 2008 8:31 am

I`m trying to change a light switch over to a dimmer switch but the current wires are all red so i`m not sure which is which. Any help would be much appreciated.

Before you remove the wires from the old switch, note which holes they go in to. Each contact will be marked such as "Com" or "Common", "1 way" "1" etc. Mark the common wire by wrapping a bit of sticky tape around it to avoid mixing it with the other/s. Write down what goes where if you think you may forget.

If you have two wires it should not matter. If you are using a two way switching unit then as long as common is moved to common on two way unit it should work OK.
