Lintels in stonework

by Simon Kent » Sun Jun 03, 2007 3:43 pm

I would like to replace some rotten, wooden lintels in 2 doorways in an old stone barn with concrete ones. The walls are about 2 feet thick and constructed with stone on the faces of the wall and a cavity filled with rubble and other loose material. One doorway is supported only by 4 timber lintels and the other doorway has a curved brickwork lintel on the outer face, and three timber lintels behind that.
At the moment we are replacing the old flat galvanised roof of this single storey barn, with a pitched polycarbonate one.
