load bearing wall

Post by ma » Fri Mar 25, 2011 9:10 am

gril in need of help.

i want to make an arch in a load bearing internal wall. Currently The span is 4 metres approx, and a door way in the middle. its a single brick wall dividing two rooms. I want to take down about 3 metres on one side of the wall and make an arc way opening. iv been told by a builder that a lintel will do, of about 2 metre span and 100mm wide. im worried,
Its a bungalow and the roof joists runs on top of this wall to the other side of a supporting wall, spanning at least 10 metres. Can you please advise me before he gets me the wrong size.
