Loft access options.

Hello.

I am considering a loft conversion in my hipped roof semi. I was considering installing a spacesaver staircase (alternate tread) in order to minimise the amount of floor space lost by the stairwell opening but was wondering whether there are any other options. I read the TRADA guidance notes on roof space conversions and they mention that a fixed ladder with twin handrails can be used if the loft is to be converted in to a single room.

Does anyone know if this is still the case, and where such a fixed ladder can be bought?
