Metallic Paint Effect

Does anyone know of a metallic paint effect that I can use on a plaster fireplace which has been painted over with white satin finish. The prevous owners painted the fireplace which is in really good condition. I would like to see it look more like a polished cast iron finish or perhaps a pewter colour. Any ideas ? Thanks
