Neighbours built a garden shed attached to my garage....

by hara1274 » Thu Jul 29, 2010 8:03 pm

My neighbours have erected a garden shed which is attached to my garage without asking for my permission. The structure required holes to be drilled in my garage wall. Should they have asked permission prior to commence the work? Are there regulations they should adhere to?
Many thanks for your replies in advance.

They shouldn't have really done this without informing you, although there is no law saying they cant do it really. If it is a party structure they are allowed to drill holes and plug the wall. If it isn't a party structure which is more likely there isn't really much you can do about it other then ask them to take it down nicely and fill the holes. You could take them to civil court but not really worth the effort.

Many thanks for your response. Just one question, what do you mean by a party structure?

Apologies. I meant party wall. A party structure is usually a floor or ceiling in a block of flats. They are essentially the same though. We had friends that had a similar problem.
