New Radiators taking ages to get hot - flow/return problem?

Post by steveeckersley » Tue Oct 28, 2008 9:15 pm

New radiators take ages to get hot
We have had two new radiators fitted in a new Kitchen and conservatory. All others are working as normal, the new ones eventually get hot but there is a massive difference in temperature between the flow and return pipes (flow mega hot, return almost cold). Cannot understand how rads get hot but pipework so different in temperature. Turned all the others off to try and force them, bled several times, run out of ideas. Can anybody help please.

sounds like the lockshield valves (on the return side normally) are almost closed. might be obvious but have you checked?

failing that your system may need to be balanced to account for the additions of two extra rads.

whats your pump set at? you could try to turn it up to see if this helps.... are the new rads completely new? - ie has the system been extended to add these new rads?

Thanks everybody for all the replies and tips, did the checks, found it was a case of balancing the original radiators to account for the two new ones added. The place is now lovely and warm which is good as its freezing outside! Thanks again, Steve
