Newbie - Flat roof question

Hi All

After some advice.

Attempting to build a flat roof half brick wall / half wooden frame. I am unsure what would be the best size for a wall plate and what is the best way to fix beams to the wall plate.

When you say half brick wall half timber what do you mean. Is one wall brick and the other side of the room a timber wall?
