no hot water

by eggfoo7 » Sat Sep 13, 2008 8:13 am

I know absolutely nothing about plumbing and heating so need some good advice PLEASE!! I have had a new bathroom suite put it and radiator removed and replaced with one put on the wall.
We have had the water put back on but we cant get any hot water to come through, we put it on continous for four hours yesterday but we still couldnt get any hot water.
We have a heater in an airing cupboard in the bedroom then a water container in the loft which appears quite old. Has anyone any ideas please???

Do you have a hot water cylinder in an airing cupboard fed by a cold water tank in the loft?

Is the cylinder an 'indirect cylinder'? (might say on a sticker)

If so your cylinder coil is airlocked and your cylinder wont heat the hot water. You can check to see this is the case by touching the feed and return pipes on the actual hot water cylinder (see picture):

https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/do ... r%20system:

scroll down to the picture that represents the cylinder and you will see what looks like a coil. Touch the pipes where they come out of the coil (top and bottom pipes at the left side at bottom)... both should be hot.... if not your airlocked.

If this was done recently by a plumber they will have drained down to replace the radiator and caused this airlock. Get them back to sort it.... these things happen regularly (so be nice!) and they should do it free.
