    Odd Smell...

    Postby heathmount » Mon Feb 16, 2009 7:57 pm

    Don't worry - I've not got a gas leak!

Evey now and then when I use my gas cooker (like now) there's a smell coming off it which is not gas but more of a paraffin type smell. Currently I have the oven and one of the rings going, have been for about half an hour and the smell is very noticeable. It's obviously not a gas leak or I woldn;t be writing this! Any ideas? We have gas central heating but it's only ever when the cooker is on and then only sometimes.

    cheers

It could be a small gas leak, or maybe a burner hasn't lite properly? Also, could just need a clean? I've seen some pretty bad ones.

Could be few things - if you're sure it's not gas.

The cleaners you use on the oven/hob - can give off quite a strong smell when heated - is it when the hob or oven is used ?

Also worth removing and cleaning the hob burners, if you remove the burners you may find underneath is full of water, grease etc.

When you have oil-based paint drying the burning gas smells funny. I don't know why but it just does.
