over laying joists in the roof space

Post by new boy » Wed Sep 24, 2008 8:47 am

hi i am having my loft space insulated up to 270mm (thickness of insulation) but i am also having it over boarded with chip board flooring my problem is that my original joists are not high enough to accommodate the new insulation they are only 150x50mm.

can i put wood onto the joists to give me the extra height i need and should it be put directly on top or at 90 degs to the original joists

thanks for your time

Ignore the fiberglass idea use polyurethane instead, foam sprayed/poured between the joists will provide a much better job, your home will be warmer and you can pile things onto polyfoam, making the loft space useful.
