Painting ceramic floor tiles

Hi, we have original external ceramic floor tiles - discoloured and tired looking. What is the best approach to restore them? Can they be painted / varnished? If so, is there specific paint or vanish I should use?

See our project, as advised above, on painting ceramic tiles. Most Diy stores sell tile paint.
