Painting metal door handles?

by JRW » Mon Apr 30, 2007 12:02 pm

Hi,

I have recently bought a flat where all the door handles are big, ornate and gold. It may have been a good look in the 1950s but I absolutely hate them!

Instead of buying a whole set of new door handles (expensive) I was wondering whether I could spray paint them silver. Does anyone know if this would work? Obviously as handles are being touched every day, I wonder whether the paint would eventually come off on hands. I have seen some spray paint for radiators, but none for fixtures and fittings.

Any advice gratefully received.

thanks, JRW

PS There are many clear lacquers that u can fnish them with they tend to be very tough to
