Painting on existing painted walls

by lerman » Sun Aug 05, 2007 8:10 pm

Hi there,

We are about to start painting on walls that are already painted. We have a few holes/cracks that we need fill and sand over. Do you suggest any other preparation we would need to do? We have sugar soap here, but I'm not quite sure what you do with it...??? One more question....is it absolutely essential that you sand the entire wall down before you paint on it?

I'm a novice, as I'm sure you can tell.

thanks
Jo

Hi Joe,
No you dont have to sand the entire wall dowm so long as the last paint was an emulsion, first coat everything with your new paint then fill all holes and lightly sand, then re coat again,so long as it is not a dark paint over a light paint it may need more coats, good luck.
