I have varnished a new internal pine door with a clear matt varnish. I wanted a natural look but it now looks 'treacly'. what is the best way to obtain a more natural look? I was thinking of using a wax (possibly lime wax) but can you put wax over varnish? Would rubbing with wire wool help to reduce the wet look?
