placement of kitchen wall cabinets near gas hob

Hello, I am designing a new kitchen and need to find out the saftey regulations for the placement of wall cabinets near a gas hob and the minimum height that an extractor hood can be placed above the hob. The current kitchen layout is, I understand, in contravention of the regs as it has wall cabinets placed immediately adjacent to the position of the hob. Can someone advise how large a saftey gap must be left to the sides of the hob?
