Plasterboard thickness

Hi, can anyone advise?

I am having an integral garage converted at the moment but am overboarding the ceiling asbestos fibre boards prior to having it plastered. can anyone advise what thicknes board (9.5mm or 12.5mm) should I use. I have had confused ideas from two people so far.
