Polystyrene and PVC cables???

Post by Sparkydelux » Tue Jan 08, 2008 10:23 pm

Hi,

I've just been introduced to polystyrene and PVC cable.Does anyone know the implications that the 2 have on eachother or rather Polystyrene on PVC?

I have some cables touching, and at some points running through, polystyrene. What solutions have been used to avoid contact?Keeping in mond I have minimal space.

Regards.

Hi,
There is a chemical reaction between the two that sends the pvc insulator brittle. I believe this called marring but don't quote me!
I'd guess, other than removing the polystyrene and replacing it with a non-reactive type. Would be to install in conduit. But i'd wait for a more informative and educated answer than mine.
