Polystyrene ceiling tiles in kitchen
I am refurbishing a bungalow and the kitchen ceiling has been covered with old polystyrene tiles. Is there a way of making them fire retardant other than removing them and totally replacing the ceiling?
You don't have to replace the plaster ceiling and yes you should take them down.
The glue that sticks them will scraoe oiff by and large although you may have to heat it a bit. You'll never get a perfectly smooth ceiling again without skimming (might need overboarding as well). What you can do though is use textured paint. A couple of coats will cover up any residual marks from where the glue blobs were. Cheers
