    pop3 connection proplems

    Postby featherbed » Mon Jan 05, 2009 6:15 pm

My windows mail (vista,s name for outlook express) will not connect.this is the error message.
Account: 'virgin.net', Server: 'virgin.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC9 Does anyone understand what this message means or know how i can solve the problem. the connection used to work, until i had to reload my windows vista, due to losing everything on my computer. thanks in anticipation.

    featherbed,
You probably have not set up your log-on name and password. Start windows mail and click on send/receive, you should then get a pop-up to enter the details.
    end

thanks for reply stoneyboy, i tried as you suggested, all i got was the error message as before, im using the same username and password that i use when retrieving my mail from virgins "mail" site.(and the same as i used previously for POP3). I prefer the POP3 (if i could get it working). Thanks again.

Since you have internet access, if you Google "virginmedia.com" and search their help section for email and then go to the get started section.

    POP mail servers

    Postby SYSTECH » Thu Jan 08, 2009 8:00 pm

you say you are connecting using virgin.net for both servers - try setting connections as mail.virgin.net for both the POP3 and SMTP servers.
If that does not work the other common setting for mail servers is pop.virgin.net for outgoing mail server and smtp.virgin.net for incoming server
