Pre-Cast Flue is in the way

by Novice27 » Fri Apr 11, 2008 8:02 pm

I'm very much the novice so any help would be appreciated.

I have moved into a new build with no fire in the living room, only an air vent in the shallow chimney breast which looks a bit naff.

Having no need for a fire I had planned to create a recess (about 80cm Wide) in the chimney breast for flowers/ornaments etc as a focal point for the room.

However, behind the vent there is a pre-cast flue made from concrete blocks ony 40cms apart. Would it be a massive job to remove these blocks? Should I forget the Idea? If not how would you go about doing it?

Any Help would be appreciated.

i think you should leave well alone and stick to a vase on the windowcill, the flue could well be part of the structure and is clearly there for a purpose
