Preserveative for new gates

Newbie here hopefullyhave posted in correct forum. Have just erected a pair of wooden driveway gates. Installer left a note advising an oil based preservative, can anyone assist or recommend a suitable item. Thanks

Ask the installer it will then be their fault if it isn't right.
