Radiator Shelves

by Escrape » Tue Feb 10, 2009 10:32 pm

I want to install solid pine 25mm thick floating shelves above my gas central heated radiators. Is there a suggested gap between shelf and radiator to prevent any warping or distortion of the wood. The shelves will be painted white satinwood.

Escrape,
They will probably warp no matter how far you site them above the radiator.

Thanks Stonyboy. What about the shelves they sell in B&Q. They are all made of Pine. Or should I use 25mm thick MDF. Ta for help.

Escrape,
MDF should be far more stable than pine, I would suggest three point fixing to minimise bowing. B&Q shelves - try one you can always take it back if it does warp.
