Re finishing oak doors

by whiteej » Mon May 21, 2007 8:56 pm

Some of our mid oak kitchen unit doors have been bleached by the sun and need restoring.
Having tried many stains, I find that they all have a reddish tinge.
Where can I find a true mid oak stain like the one used by furniture manufacturers?

The way a stain "takes" depends on the grain of the timber and the same stain can give two entirely different finishes on two doors. It might be best to try a wax finish or simply a teak, danish or linseed oil. See our timber floor finishes to give you some more ideas.

you may find a true mid oak stain like the one used by furniture manufacturers at the various Amish communities, that have certified special stains, for each different community, that are either made themselves, or made according to their exacting specifications by others in the Amish community.
