Regs for fire surrounds for gas fires - sizes

are there any regulations regarding the distance from the edge of a gas fire to the fire surround - above and to the side - I have some oak that I want to use for a fire surround

I would also like to know the regs for a fire back panel - what can be used - again for a gas fire

also for a hearth
