Removing spindles, hand rail and newel post for stripping

by Emma M » Sat Jun 14, 2008 6:09 pm

Hello

I want to remove my stair spindles, hand rail and newel posts so I can send them to be dipped, removing all the old paint. However, I don't know how to do this. I know I could strip them wit a hot air gun and nitromors, but this would take forever.

The house is Edwardian. THe spindles don't have a tread return at their side, they are all set in one block of wood.

Many thanks for your suggestions,

Emma

Hi
I know its not the answer you want to hear, but i wouldn't even consider stripping them to be dipped. It will take just as long to strip it and rebuild it as it would be to strip if not longer. Also you run the risk of damaging the wood.
