Repairing a clay drian pipe

Post by damian » Tue Jun 12, 2007 11:19 am

Hi.
Can anyone tell me what I need to repair a crack in a clay drain pipe?
I have plastic drain pipe running down from my gutters in to a clay grid.
The grid is connected to a clay pipe, and there is a crack on the top of this clay pipe that I want to repair.
The crack isn't really causing me a problem as no water is running out of it and it's not connected to a soil pipe anywhere, I'd just like to get it sorted before it gets any worse.

Thanks for your help/suggestions.

Regards,
Damian

There is a tape available from builders merchants called Densotape. It is used for pipe wrapping as insulation and protection but will make a good temporary repair to a clay pipe. We strongl;y suggest that you get the pipe replaced however as the ground is moving all the time and a small crack now can be a broken pipe in 6 weeks time leading to all sorts of problems. It wioll be much cheaper to replace it now that to gig it all up again.
