Replace Shower Door With New Heavier Door - Will Stud Work be ok?

by fishnet » Thu Mar 27, 2014 8:25 am

the three walls of my shower cubicle are only 3 inch stud walls. The replacement door, which has 6mm glass, has been delivered (awaiting installation) and the packaging quotes a net weight of 28 kgs. Will the stud walls support this weight , or should I insist on a different door with only 4mm glass, which will presumably weigh no more than 20kgs
please advise

Nope. The stud wall will be fine. In fact, the screen will make the wall sturdier because the weight is on the tray not the wall.

I fit 10mm screens to thin airing cupboard walls regularly.
