Replacing floor boards with solid wood floor

by amazondean » Wed Aug 15, 2007 5:51 pm

Hi. I am restoring my Grans old house and found the floorboards in some rooms full of wood worm so I am planning on pulling it all up, treating the joists and laying solid hardwood flooring straight onto the joists. Is this a good idea. I have been looking at 18mm boards with tongue and groove on all sides. The lengths vary so the ends would not finish on a joist but have been told that does not matter as the ends are t & g. Is it ok to use hidden nails to nail it all down or will this split the wood.

Any comments greatly received.
