Resizing doors

Post by davep » Wed Aug 22, 2007 12:43 pm

Hi. How much can I safely cut off the top and bottom of a six panel interior pine door.
The existing frame is 76in high , I can only find 78in doors.

Thanks in advance

Hi. The short answer is it depends on the door! You'd probably get away with an inch top and bottom if the door is decent quality. However to be sure drill a small hole into the door downwards from the top. If you get to two inches without breaking through you're fine to take an inch off.

If you are paranoid repeat, drilling up from the bottom!
