restoring parquet flooring

by hobbis » Fri Aug 21, 2009 3:43 pm

We are on the last leg of our renovations and have now run out of money due to being made redundant so have lots of time for DIY so thought I would tackle the floor. We have a Victorian house which has been added to over the decades and one room has a parquet floor which acts as the damp proof. The condition of the blocks is excellent it is the finish that has worn over time (in patches) I would like to restore it properly so that it lasts. i have used floor varnishes on an old pine floor but it keeps wearing off. In 10 years the parquet floor hasn't become any worse - what they used, I have no idea, but it wears well.
Any ideas and suggestions.
